iphone alarm one hour early (daylight savings? no.)
This morning my iphone alarm for the first time went off an hour early. Pissed, I reset it in the clock app for the right time, thinking it was a one-off strange event, but nope, it didn’t go off at the right time at all and I slept in a couple hours more than I intended.
Some sleuthing online proved it to be an ios 4 bug that lots of new zealanders started having trouble with almost a month ago.
The facts:
- Daylight saving (called saving, not savings) time starts in the US a week from now, Nov. 7. [http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/events.html]
- ios 4 has a bug that screws this up somehow in the alarm of the clock app.
Solutions
- Remove all repeats from the alarm and that seems to fix it. Worked for me. You’ll just have to set and double-check your alarm every night. [http://www.macworld.com.au/help/fixing-ios-4s-wonky-daylight-saving-alarms-17387/]
- Alternative: Download “Alarm Clock Free” from the app store. Limitation: You’ve got to leave that app running when you close your phone at night.
